The Cape Whale Coast and Overberg Region offer a wide variety of activities, many fascinating places of interest to visit and easy self-drive day trips to explore the area. We offer some suggestions in the below list, but will gladly assist with more information and directions should you require more guidance in order to make the most of your holiday.
Whale Watching & Shark Cage Diving
A visit to this region will not be complete without a sighting of whales in the bay, in Season from June to October, or a boat trip for cage diving with sharks. Consider Ivanhoe Sea Safaris for eco-friendly personal encounters with the Southern Right Whales, dolphins and seals, and Shark Lady Adventures in Gansbaai for meeting with the Great Whites.

On a Walk-About
From the beach house there are numerous walking paths from which to choose. You can stroll along the many footpaths crossing through the Middelvlei Estate or walk along the edge of the lagoon. Take a long walk along the unspoilt sandy beach towards Kleinmond, or through the dunes in search of the herd of wild horses that freely roam around the area. If you want to drive to explore other hiking options, visit the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Betty’s Bay, consider a leisurely stroll along the cliff path in Hermanus or hike along any of the numerous trails in the mountains above Kleinmond and the Palmiet River area. For memorable visits to Cape Nature Reserves, you are spoilt for choice. Check out CapeNature website for options in the Overberg region, all an easy drive from Lagoonandsea. Visit the Kogelberg, Walker Bay, Salmonsdam, De Hoop, Fernkloof Nature Rerserves or Stony Point Penguin Colony at Betty’s Bay. Betty’s Bay Parkrun and Hermanus Parkrun are popular Saturday fun activities.

Birding
With over 130 species of birds having been sighted in the area, it is truly a paradise for birdwatchers. We recommend that you bring your binoculars and enjoy many hours of delight observing our feathered friends living in the area. All about Horses
Equestrian Centre Overstrand Horse Rides, in Kleinmond offers horse riding along the beach, through the vineyards or in the surrounding mountains. Look out for the herd of wild horses that live in the Bot River Lagoon area. They are often seen peacefully grazing in the dunes or galloping past along the edge of the lagoon. They are a most beautiful sight to behold.

The Cape Whale Coast and Overberg region also cater to the tastes of the more adventurous among us. Adrenaline junkies can choose from the following options: Cape Canopy Tour near Elgin, paragliding, quadbiking, 4×4 Trails, mountain biking in Fernkloof Nature Reserve, rafting and tubing on the Palmiet River or extreme sandboarding on the dunes outside Betty’s Bay.

In & Out of the Water
Lagoonandsea is a water sport lover’s dream holiday location. The lagoon offers excellent conditions for water skiing and boating, sailing, swimming, kite-surfing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. All along the Cape Whale Coast there are also popular spots for snorkeling, surfing and scuba diving.

If your holiday is just not complete without a visit to the greens, consider booking a tee-time at Arabella Golf Estate, currently ranked under the top ten golf courses in South Africa. Alternatively, Kleinmond and Hermanus also offer excellent courses for golfers to enjoy.
